Archbishop Dolan, of the Archdiocese of New York and newly-elected president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), recently wrote about Subsidiarity and Solidarity - a topic that both excites me and confuses me. I enjoyed the article, especially this excerpt: We bishops are not politicians, but pastors. So we preach principles — not [...]

Immigration Part II: Those who are already here Immigrants come here in basically 2 ways. Legally: They go through customs at the border they arrive in and fill out proper documentation there. Illegally: They ‘sneak in’  or are smuggled in. Sometimes though, even those who came here legally can become illegal when they let their visas expire. It happens. Many [...]

Born-again American

Growing up, our family wasn’t anti-patriotic but since my parents didn’t grow up here we didn’t grow up in the same way ‘cradle-Americans’ do…I used to take my country for granted and really didn’t give much thought about Americanism beyond memorizing facts for a school test. In the past few years though, I feel like a born-again Christian (even though I’m a cradle Catholic) as I’ve ‘re-discovered’ America and my citizenship in this country in a new way
