7 Random “Quicks” 2

Ladies and Gentlemen, the day has finally come. The day I have been dreaming of for so long. My friend, Mary, has finally, finally! started a blog! If you don’t know Mary, I am really terribly sorry for you. Mary is one of those friends who can pull me out of pretty much any bad mood just by saying hi or waving at me. She’s the crazy completely sane mother of five – yes FIVE! – incredibly adorable and equally crazy completely sane children. Her husband is probably the most serious guy I know. He never jokes. Ever. In fact, if you ever get into a conversation with him, run, I mean smile and nod, I mean, take everything he says seriously…and then smile and nod. πŸ˜‰ Anyway. They are a wonderful family and I love getting to see them and talk with them about deep things and shallow things. Mary doesn’t know it, but the folks over in Rome have already begun her canonization process. Aside from how holy and kind and generous and beautiful she is…my favorite thing about Mary is her sense of humor. Think Jim Gaffigan but female…and less pale, much skinnier and with a whole lot more hair.

Anyway, so here’s her new blog: Mary Big Hair. Put it in your blog feeder list. You’re welcome.  (P.S. Mary, no pressure or anything! If people hate you and never read your blog I guess you can blame me since I’ve hounded you about this for so long. But I doubt that will happen. In fact, everyone will love your blog so much they’ll never read another. Oh. Turd. Why did I tell everyone?!?! πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜‰ )

Speaking of funny families. This – Recreating ridiculous family pictures – is funny. I would love to try this with some of our old pictures somehow. I like how the ‘adult’ current picture looks so much like their past ‘child’ self.

Next, up, the toddler…

I’ve been avoiding typing that for as long as I could. He turned 1 last month. He’s actually 13 months now. So I guess I might as well admit it. He’s not my infant baby anymore. …… πŸ™ …….

Though he’s not quite walking yet, he is “toddling” around. I think he really does walk when no one is around. I’ll catch him doing it and then sees me and quickly drops down to the ground. “I wasn’t walking. I don’t what you’re talking about, mama.”

I might re-name him “Tornado”. He goes to one room, trashes it, then goes the next, trashes it, and goes from there until he has emptied out every thing from every possible draw or basket or cabinet. I usually just let him “play” so I can cook or clean or write or whatever I’m trying to do. There’s no point in cleaning while he’s there. I was going to draw a picture but remembered there’s already a good Crappy Pictures one the absurdness of Cleaning with a Toddler in the Room.

Here are a few real-life pics of the “Tornado” in process. (Usually it’s much worse than this but he was being a little “camera shy”)

The aftermath: (He has managed to empty out the whole Lazy Susan and most of the contents of the cabinet next to it.)

Remember when I shared internal struggle with loving my life as a “stay-at-home” mom while at the same time sometimes yearning for a “paid” job? Well that same day, the boys were playing around with the Monopoly game money and – almost as if they read that blog post, they started coming up to me and handing me money. True story. They said, “Mama, you’re doing such a good job being a mama, you earn $500 dollars!” Or, “Mama, you’re cook so great, here’s $100!” I accumulated a good amount of dough throughout the day. I set the pile on the ledge by the sink so I could see it while doing the dishes – it made me smile. Who says moms don’t get paid? πŸ˜‰

Speaking of accomplishments and motivation for house work. I MADE SOMETHING. It’s nothing really extra special but I feel good about it. It’s a Laundry Room Motivational Board. I took some old cork board squares, pasted on some of my favorite pretty paper (I love pretty paper!!), added a lacey hanger, hot-glued on some clothes pins (since it’s for the Laundry “room”), and then clipped on some pictures of the kids. Now, while I do laundry or change the baby’s toddler’s diaper, I can see this and remember the why and who of my work.  It feels good to finally get this incredibly easy and simple craft project done that I may or may not have started oh….six months ago. πŸ™‚

Ok, here’s some big news. For many years, I’ve talked/dreamed/wrote about writing a book. It’s on my “bucket list”. It’s not just a “dream” of mine though. It’s something I think God might actually be calling me to. But I could be wrong, I’m not the best at deciphering God’s Will. (Can’t I give my “free will” back in exchange for always knowing exactly what He wants me to do? Oh…I guess that’s what Adam and Eve wanted…) Anyway. So I could be wrong about that. Or, I could be wrong that He isn’t calling me write a book for Him – to serve others by sharing a talent and passion He gave me. Either way, I’ve decided to stop over thinking whether or not He wants me to do this or not and just…do it. I think. Maybe…I’m scared! I know the first part of committing to something  is telling others you are going to do it. So here I am. Telling all of you, whoever you all might be. I have several book ideas that are perpetually bouncing around in my head but there are two main ones I have in mind to get started. One is an idea for a children’s picture Saint book and the other would be more along the lines of marriage and family. I can’t decide which one to start with?

Speaking of moms deciding to “live out her dreams”, did anyone catch last night’s first return Parenthood episode? I really love that show, even though there are many ideas I disagree with. It’s a good show. Anyway, if you watched it, what did you think about Christina’s decision?

P.S. This is where I found the baby after I finally finished these “quick” takes (that I didn’t proofread for once so forgive any errors).

It begins.

Here’s hoping that charming wordpress let’s me make a post! Anyway, Your extremely kind first take made my face turn bright red…and I am sitting alone while reading this. I am speechless. When we talked in the parking lot today I was trying to influence you to set your standards WAY low for my blog. Now I am going to have to do a “low standards post” to compensate for your giving me such high marks πŸ˜‰ Also, the monopoly money part was really cute. So rewarding.

Yay! You commented! And it went through! It’s WordPress magic. πŸ˜‰
Golly, I hope I didn’t embarrass you! Like I said, no pressure. Just be yourself. That’s what I and everyone like about you. πŸ™‚ (p.s. I hope your husband didn’t take offense to what I said, I sincerely enjoy talking with him and hearing his thoughts…now that I understand him and am not as scared of him anymore. πŸ˜‰ )
Yes, the boys told me I had to give the money back to “the bank” but I want to keep it there to keep me motivated.
