I love spending time with my family, especially when we have no where we have to be or anything in particular that needs our urgent attention, which is akin to a miracle. A few months ago on an unusually slow Saturday morning, our ten-year-old daughter asked what we were going to do that day and then asked if she could plan a “surprise” for everyone. She picked a movie and we baked up some pizza bagels and taquitos and she arranged a little picnic and family movie night in the basement. Everyone enjoyed it and of course the other kids wanted a turn to plan a “Surprise”. Ever since then, every weekend, each child gets to pick a “Surprise” family activity. We’ve had fun coming up with different ideas like a family ping-pong matches, Wii tournaments, trips to the local frozen yogurt shop, outings to “secret” parks, and watching fun family movies. It’s become a enjoyable tradition and we look forward to the time away from our busy schedules and commitments to carve out some “quality family time” together every weekend.
