Last month over at CatholicMom.com I shared a review of Sarah Reinhard’s Catholic Family Fun – A Guide for the Adventurous, Overwhelmed, Creative or Clueless wherein I also got everyone all excited about a Giveaway hosted here on the blog. But then, in some sort of evil twist with wicked witches and flying monkeys, my blog stopped working for the first time ever that same day! How embarrassing. My deepest apologies. After a little maintenance work the blog is back up and running so I’d like to give this a second shot. You can read the full review over at CatholicMom.com and enter the giveaway below for your own copy of Catholic Family Fun .
Here is what I said last month again…
{Full Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of Catholic Family Fun – A Guide for the Adventurous, Overwhelmed, Creative or Clueless in exchange for an honest review.}
I love spending time with my family, especially when we have no where we have to be or anything in particular that needs our urgent attention, which is akin to a miracle. A few months ago on an unusually slow Saturday morning, our ten-year-old daughter asked what we were going to do that day and then asked if she could plan a “surprise” for everyone. She picked a movie and we baked up some pizza bagels and taquitos and she arranged a little picnic and family movie night in the basement. Everyone enjoyed it and of course the other kids wanted a turn to plan a “Surprise”. Ever since then, every weekend, each child gets to pick a “Surprise” family activity. We’ve had fun coming up with different ideas like a family ping-pong matches, Wii tournaments, trips to the local frozen yogurt shop, outings to “secret” parks, and watching fun family movies. It’s become a enjoyable tradition and we look forward to the time away from our busy schedules and commitments to carve out some “quality family time” together every weekend.
However, sometimes it’s hard to come up with new and fun ideas that the whole family can realistically participate in and enjoy. I also like incorporating our Faith subtly into our everyday lives but am not always very creative. Enter in Sarah Reinhard’s book Catholic Family Fun – A Guide for the Adventurous, Overwhelmed, Creative or Clueless.
As I flipped through the chapters when my copy arrived, I could see how resourceful this book could be for our family “surprises” or for other family fun we might want to try.

I’ve been trying to turn Saint’s feast days into literal “feasts” by making desserts or special snacks. Sometimes I try to make the food coincide w/ the saint, but often I forget to plan ahead and end up doing nothing. 🙁 I’d like to get better at this.
Hi Amy! Thanks so much for coming by and commenting. Don’t feel bad, I do good if I remember what Saints’ day it is let alone plan ahead for it. 😉 I think you’d like a lot of Sarah’s ideas in her book.
This book sounds like a lot of fun! It’s hard to come up with new ideas for family fun. 🙂
Welcome, Jaime! Yes, I think it’s a great resource book to get the brainwaves thinking creatively. Thanks so much for coming by and participating in the Giveaway.
